Description:
We are hiring a detail-oriented Billing Support Specialist II to join GeneDx’s remote billing team. In this role you will manage patient and client billing inquiries, resolve payment issues, and provide excellent customer support while ensuring accurate data entry and adherence to billing processes. This role supports our mission to deliver high-quality genomic testing services and an outstanding customer experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality customer service to patients, clinicians, and payors via phone and email.
- Rotate weekly between handling inbound calls and managing emails, tickets, outbound calls, and problem queues, adapting quickly to schedule changes.
- Enter and maintain accurate patient and billing information in internal systems to preserve data integrity.
- Review and process documentation such as medical hold forms and faxes, and manage inbound/outbound queues effectively.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, process payments, refunds, and adjustments accurately.
- Collaborate with finance and customer service teams to support month-end activities and operational continuity.
- Navigate a range of payor types (ACOs, Cash Pay, Commercial/Private, Medicare, Medicaid) and manage benefit investigations and prior authorization queries.
- Contact clients and insurance carriers as needed to obtain information for prior authorization and claim submission.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to enhancements in billing procedures.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Proven billing or customer support experience, preferably in healthcare, clinical laboratory, or physician office settings (1–3 years preferred).
- Working knowledge of third-party payor policies, prior authorizations, and medical benefits.
- Familiarity with billing systems (experience with Xifin and CareVio is a plus) and proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office.
- Strong data entry accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, remote environment and to de-escalate challenging situations professionally.
- High empathy, patient-focused mindset, and commitment to exceptional customer service.
Work Conditions & Scheduling:
- Fully remote role; must be available for an 8-hour shift Monday–Friday within the 8:00am–8:00pm EST window.
- Occasional light lifting (up to 10 lbs) and standard remote-office workstation requirements.
