About the Role
The Billing Specialist will be an essential member of the RCM team, responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of ABA claims billing and collections. You will ensure claims are submitted accurately and on time, payments are posted and reconciled correctly, denials are followed up promptly, and overpayments are identified and managed. This role requires attention to detail, strong follow-through and close collaboration with providers and internal teams to maintain clean AR and optimise revenue collection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Submit primary and secondary claims accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Post and reconcile insurance payments and ensure ledger accuracy.
  • Monitor, research and resolve claim rejections; escalate issues to leadership where needed.
  • Manage denials — ensure denials are addressed within three days of remittance advice posting and follow through on appeals.
  • Handle assigned tasks in Lumary including provider communications and task updates.
  • Identify trends or recurring claim issues and report them so process improvements can be made.
  • Review and manage overpayments and initiate recoupment when required; ensure payer reconciliations are completed.
  • Audit regularly for missed billing or unacknowledged claims and coordinate with providers to write off uncollectable claims after exhausting appeals.

About You:

  • Experience in ABA or behavioural health billing is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of the medical claim lifecycle and payer reimbursement processes (Medicaid billing experience advantageous).
  • Familiarity with ERA/EOB processing and electronic claim submission workflows.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong accountability and excellent follow-through on tasks.
  • A solutions-focused mindset: you ask the right questions, collaborate with senior team members and pursue practical resolutions.

  • Lead with an open heart — assume positive intent and act with courage.
  • Start with the end in mind focus on long-term impact.
  • Take action in uncertainty — make the next best step and exercise autonomy.
  • Enable others for our collective good — be kind and team-first.

Benefits of Working With Lumary:

  • Flexible work arrangements — hybrid from office locations (Adelaide, Sydney, Denver) or fully remote if not office-based.
  • Flexible start/finish times to support work-life balance.
  • Regular company connection events including monthly town halls and social days.
  • Strong focus on development (70-20-10 learning model) and access to internal coaching/mentoring.
  • Be part of an internationally growing company with a mission to empower sustainable healthcare.
