Role Overview — Billing & Invoicing:
As a Billing Specialist, you will help ensure accurate, compliant billing and invoicing processes. The role centers on verifying billing data, submitting claims to payers, following up on unpaid or rejected items, resolving discrepancies, and supporting collections activities when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, commercial and private payers, ensuring submissions are complete and accurate prior to filing.
  • Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims, investigate issues, resolve problems, and resubmit corrected claims.
  • Interpret explanations of benefits (EOBs) and maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer processes, authorization rules and billing limitations.
  • Investigate denials and exceptions, take corrective steps to recover appropriate reimbursement and recommend process improvements to reduce recurring errors.
  • Provide customer service for billing inquiries—explain processes, benefits, and coverage limitations while handling protected health information in line with HIPAA.
  • Perform additional billing tasks as assigned by the Billing Supervisor, Billing Manager, or Director of Billing.

Qualifications / Education:

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comfortable using practice management and billing software, plus common office applications (word processing, spreadsheets).
  • Detail-oriented with strong multitasking, time-management and numerical/problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to explain complex billing issues clearly.
  • Ability to evaluate alternative solutions and choose the most appropriate course of action.
  • Commitment to remain in the role for a minimum of 9 months before applying for other internal opportunities (exceptions require department approval).

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk and occasionally bend or move about the facility.
  • Light physical effort; occasional lifting under 10 lbs.
