Position Summary:
The Billing Associate will perform tasks requiring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment. Responsibilities include submitting and appealing medical billing claims, posting reimbursements from payers, and resolving discrepancies. This role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and solve complex billing issues efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Submit medical claims to insurance carriers, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial insurers.
- Handle insurance credentialing and ensure timely submission of professional claims.
- Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations as required by insurers.
- Verify patient eligibility and benefits for healthcare services.
- Communicate with insurance companies to resolve payment discrepancies.
- Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurance providers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical information.
- Follow up on missed payments and resolve financial discrepancies.
- Assist patients in establishing payment plans for outstanding balances.
- Adhere to all regulations and guidelines from state programs and HMO/PPO policies.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and manage sensitive information appropriately.
- Handle patient and insurance inquiries via phone or email.
- Utilize multiple EMR systems for data entry and demographic updates.
- Post and reconcile payments to patient ledgers; prepare accounts for collections if needed.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the billing team lead.
Required Experience, Qualifications, and Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a medical biller or in a similar role.
- Strong customer service and accounts receivable (A/R) collection skills.
- Proficient with billing software and electronic medical records (EMR).
- Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of CPT codes and current coding guidelines.
- Team-oriented with the ability to thrive in a remote work environment.
