Description:
SmartAsset, a leading online platform providing consumer-focused financial information and advice, is seeking a highly skilled Billing Analyst to join our team. This role supports the Finance department by managing complex billing processes, ensuring revenue recognition compliance, and contributing to process improvements across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Revenue Recognition & Compliance:

  • Lead the technical execution of ASC 606 revenue recognition framework
  • Analyze customer contracts and manage end-to-end earned vs. deferred revenue calculations
  • Maintain detailed documentation to support internal and external audits

Billing Management:

  • Manage high-value, complex contract billing cycles
  • Oversee deferred revenue and customer deposits ensuring accurate recognition and reconciliation
  • Resolve discrepancies using independent judgment and corporate accounting policies

Invoice Processing:

  • Prepare, issue, and distribute large volumes of invoices according to contracts and company policies
  • Ensure 100% alignment between executed contract terms, CRM data, and final invoices
  • Minimize credit memos and disputes through careful auditing

Month-End Close & Reporting:

  • Oversee month-end close for billing operations
  • Certify account reconciliations and manage reconciliation of customer accounts to the General Ledger
  • Draft management reports summarizing billing metrics and revenue recognition outcomes

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for billing process enhancements and system automation
  • Generate and present routine and ad-hoc reports on billing metrics, trends, and forecasts

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) and other Office Suite tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills
  • Knowledge of ASC 606, GAAP, and billing procedures
  • Experience with major ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics) or specialized billing software preferred
  • Familiarity with contract management, revenue recognition standards, and internal controls

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and computer work
  • Communication via phone and video conferences as needed
