WE ARE HIRING – ANALYST, ACCOUNTING CONTROLS
The Hershey Company is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Analyst, Accounting Controls to support inventory, cost accounting, and distribution-related financial reporting. This role plays a critical part in managing high-risk accounting areas including inventory valuation, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), purchase price variances, and warehousing activities across co-manufacturers, co-packers, and distribution centers.
Role Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to manage, analyze, and control inventory-related costs on the Balance Sheet as well as COGS and Distribution expenses on the P&L. The role ensures accurate reconciliations, GAAP-compliant accruals, and strong adherence to internal controls, including SOX requirements. The position also contributes to continuous process improvements in a dynamic and evolving supply chain environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory, COGS & Distribution Accounting:
- Support month-end close activities related to inventory, COGS, and distribution accounting.
- Reconcile inventory adjustments from co-manufacturing plants and ensure proper financial statement classification.
- Ensure all co-manufacturer billbacks are accurately processed.
- Perform periodic reconciliations between inventory location portals and company financial systems.
- Complete periodic sample counts in line with internal control policies at facilities holding company-owned inventory.
- Reconcile plant production, shipments, and goods receipts between manufacturer systems and company systems.
Operational & Financial Analysis:
- Analyze cost and operational trends to identify improvement opportunities and potential cost savings.
- Research, investigate, and explain unusual variances and anomalies.
- Monitor and review cycle counts at co-manufacturing locations.
- Utilize KPI dashboards to generate insights that drive operational and financial improvements.
Process, Controls & Compliance:
- Collaborate cross-functionally on process and system enhancements across Supply Chain and Finance.
- Work closely with co-manufacturers and 3PL partners to support system and reporting improvements.
- Perform SOX and other internal control reviews within Accounting and Supply Chain functions.
- Recommend updates to controls and processes to maintain relevance in a changing business environment.
- Prepare summaries and documentation related to compliance reviews and internal policies.
- Provide support and guidance to business teams on process-related concerns within Supply Chain operations.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
- Advanced Excel skills with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Comfort working across multiple systems and large datasets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including interaction with management and external auditors.
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP is an advantage.
Minimum Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in financial or accounting roles.
- At least 1 year of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Prior experience in consumer goods or production-focused industries is a plus.
