Description:
Cognizant is seeking a skilled Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our remote U.S.-based team. The role focuses on advanced-level work in managing physician claim denials and ensuring accurate, timely reimbursement. The ideal candidate will perform root cause analysis of payer denials, understand National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and prepare appeal documentation while collaborating on process improvements to reduce future denials.
Key Responsibilities:
• Follow up directly with payers to resolve claim issues and secure reimbursement
• Identify, analyze, and resolve denied or underpaid claims, including drafting and submitting technical appeals
• Examine payment variances and determine reasons for discrepancies
• Communicate with payers regarding outstanding claims and payment delays
• Identify root causes of underpayments or denials and recommend process improvements
• Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific billing regulations
• Document all activities accurately, including contacts, phone numbers, and actions taken
• Track claim denials and underpayments, providing detailed reporting to management
• Work with management to identify trends and address recurring issues in AR
• Meet productivity and quality standards while demonstrating problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Provide recommendations for work queue adjustments and claim edits to improve efficiency
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
• 2-3 years of experience in Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) or collections
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT codes, modifiers, diagnosis codes, and payer-specific requirements
• Experience in writing and following through with appeals
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to root cause denials and resolve accounts efficiently
• Proficiency with Excel, payer portals, claims clearinghouses, and ERP systems
