Description:
OpenSesame is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support the financial operations of a fast-growing, remote-first company that provides corporate training solutions to over 150 Global2000 companies. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with accounts payable, payroll, sales tax, and expense management processes while providing excellent internal and external customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage accounts payable, payroll, and employee expense reports with accuracy and timeliness
- Serve as primary point of contact for AP and payroll inquiries, supporting teams and vendors professionally
- Prepare, file, and reconcile monthly or quarterly sales tax filings using Avalara
- Maintain updated payroll records, compensation, deductions, benefits, and garnishments
- Process semi-monthly payroll ensuring submission 72 hours prior to payday
- Audit payroll and sales tax data to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and operational teams to improve process efficiency
- Document and optimize workflows, proposing automation or system enhancements
- Prepare required reports including tax filings and year-end statements (W-2s, 1099s)
- Uphold confidentiality and security of employee and financial information at all times
- Leverage financial systems such as Salesforce and NetSuite to support operations
Performance Objectives:
- 30 Days: Master systems, manage communications with vendors, employees, and customers, and navigate payroll/expense workflows
- 60 Days: Own recurring tasks, ensure process consistency, complete monthly close items, and manage payroll and expenses with 100% accuracy
- 90 Days: Handle sales tax filing, identify process improvements, and finalize AP/payroll SOPs
Requirements:
- Energetic, detail-oriented, and proactive in a data-driven environment
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
- Comfortable with up to 15 days travel per year (up to 35 days for leadership/senior management)
