Description:
charity: water is seeking a highly skilled Accounting Manager to join our finance team remotely in the U.S. This role is central to maintaining the integrity of accounting policies, financial compliance, and supporting process improvements across the organization. Reporting to the Controller, you will lead workflows, mentor staff, and help drive efficient financial operations while ensuring GAAP compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review and approve journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations monthly, including complex areas such as investments; investigate discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
• Partner with Revenue Operations and cross-functional teams to ensure all revenue, including pledges, is accurately recorded.
• Manage month-end consolidated financial close processes and assist staff in meeting deadlines.
• Continuously improve month-end close and reporting procedures, enhancing efficiency and timelines.
• Approve and process financial transactions as needed.
• Research and support implementation of new accounting standards.
• Create and simplify processes and systems as the organization evolves.
• Support year-end consolidated financial statement audits, tax preparation, and regulatory filings.
• Ensure timely filing of state fundraising registrations.
• Manage special projects, general ledger implementations, internal controls, and ad hoc analyses.
• Supervise and mentor accounting and senior accounting associates.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 7+ years of professional accounting experience.
• 2+ years of successfully managing a high-performing team with proven ability to develop direct reports.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with all levels of the organization.
• Superior problem-solving abilities and capacity to handle competing priorities.
• Agile mindset to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Public Accounting experience.
• CPA designation or equivalent.
• Experience with Concur, NetSuite, or other ERP/expense management platforms.
• Understanding of non-profit accounting and operations.
