Description:
Waste Connections, through its West Valley Recycling division, is seeking a dedicated Accounting Clerk to join the team in San Jose, CA. This role focuses on accounts receivable and collections, helping maintain accurate customer accounts and ensuring timely payment processes. The ideal candidate is self-driven, detail-oriented, and enjoys solving complex billing problems while contributing to a dynamic organization.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct accounts receivable and payment collection calls to delinquent accounts.
• Review, approve, and process daily payment batches; create and accurately apply payments to customer accounts.
• Run audit reports before monthly billing and make necessary account corrections.
• Prepare billing reports and maintain all billing records; submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to relevant agencies.
• Collaborate with corporate billing teams, controllers, collection managers, and office leads.
• Generate manual statements and invoices as needed; verify accuracy and legitimacy of customer payments.
• Communicate with internal and external customers regarding billing issues; document correspondence within billing system.
• Prepare ad hoc billing analysis for Senior Management.
• Liaise with Government, City, and County officials to provide required billing data.
• Maintain and update billing system with pricing, service codes, and contract regulations.
• Learn and utilize available billing tools; create custom reports for special contracts and broker accounts.
• Conduct complex customer account audits; other duties as assigned to support the accounting department.

Requirements:
• Minimum 2 years of account billing experience.
• Customer service experience with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (data entry, formulas, charts, pivot tables, sorting/filtering).
• Knowledge of 10-key operations and accounting practices.
• Strong problem-solving, time management, and multitasking abilities.
• Self-driven, adaptable, and open to learning new skills.
• Superior attendance and attention to detail; enjoys creating and improving processes.
