Hiring Finance Specialist (Work from home)

POSITION: Finance Specialist

  • DEPARTMENT: Finance
  • LOCATION: 48th St and Washington or Remote
  • REPORTS TO: Academy Finance Supervisor
  • FLSA STATUS: Exempt, Full-time ($40,000-$55,000; DOE)

Position Summary

The Finance Specialist provides finance support for the academy finance function in the areas of accounts payable, expense management tracking, and procedures and internal controls. Performs simple to moderate financial and operational processing and analysis to support the academy finance function.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Review the accounting coding for all academy invoices and expense reports to ensure the coding is accurate and aligns with the Uniform System of Financial Records for Arizona Charter Schools and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Compare invoices to academy budgets to ensure alignment with budgets
  • Enter all grant-funded expenses into grants tracking application and assist with grant reconciliations
  • Provide feedback and training to academy business office staff and parent service organizations as needed on invoice and expense report coding and other finance processes
  • Perform a detailed, monthly budget vs. actual analysis for all 21 academies to identify and alert the academy finance team of any significant budget variances
  • Provide support to academy finance team with development of academy forecasts and annual budgets
  • Monitor academy bank cash
  • Other duties as needed.
  • Qualifications, Competencies, And Strengths
  • Education/Certification: Associate’s degree in accounting, finance or related field at minimum.
  • Experience: 1-3+ years of accounting/finance work experience. Experience in education preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card.
  • Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
  • Travel required: Will need to travel locally to the various academies within the Phoenix metro area.
