About the Opportunity: The Accounting Specialist will play a pivotal role in the Accounting Function, contributing to the development and maintenance of accounting policies, controls, and systems. This position requires a candidate with a solid theoretical knowledge base, specific functional expertise, and the ability to provide guidance using technical expertise.

Your day-to-day at Sagent:

Policy and Controls:

  • Assist in managing the development, implementation, and adherence to accounting policies and procedures, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.
  • Assist in designing, implementing, administering, and reporting of relevant internal control procedures.
  • Spearhead fiscal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.

Financial Reporting:

  • Drive the preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets, cash flow statements, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Complete assigned account reconciliations and support accurate and timely month- and year-end close.
  • Assist in GAAP accounting research and apply GAAP policies as appropriate.
  • Review and interpret financial reporting rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Accounting Systems:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting systems, such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Journal Entries.
  • Maintain focus on continuous operational improvement opportunities and, where required, participate in the design and implementation of financial systems and other tools to drive continuous improvement in relevant processes.
  • Oversee the review and interpretation of financial reporting rules and regulations.

Project Monitoring:

  • Manage and develop monthly reports of expenditures and revenues for projects.
  • Lead the preparation of liabilities, record of assets, and other financial transactions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with other finance and non-finance teams, as well as external providers, to maintain and update shared processes, tools, and reporting activities.

Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare federal, state, and local reports and tax returns, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.

Revenue Recognition:

  • Drive the setup of procedures and processes for capturing, tracking, and reporting revenue, including deferred revenue, in accordance with the company’s revenue recognition policy.
  • Oversee the generation of revenue reports for internal and external use.

Financial Analysis:

  • Interpret records and reports for managers and stakeholders, providing valuable financial analysis.

Billing Details and Compliance:

  • Lead the maintenance, review, and tracking of billing details within financial systems, ensuring accuracy.
  • Oversee compliance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other accounting regulations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Prepare manual journal entries, including but not limited to cash, prepaids, fixed assets, and intangible asset accounts.
  • Provide audit support as needed.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the CAO / Assistant Controller.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or relevant discipline required
  • 1 – 2 years of experience in accounting or audit required
  • Application of theoretical knowledge to achieve accounting goals through individual work.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (a plus).
  • CPA certification (a plus).
  • Specific functional expertise in accounting gained through formal education and experience.
  • Ability to provide guidance to others as a project manager or lead, demonstrating technical expertise.
