Description:
Archimedes Shipping is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to manage financial operations within its shipping and logistics division. The role involves overseeing daily accounting tasks, freight billing, reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with company policies and UAE regulations. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, capable of working under deadlines, and possess strong analytical skills to support accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily accounting activities, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger
- Process vendor invoices related to freight, port charges, detention, demurrage, and warehousing
- Prepare and issue customer invoices for ocean and air freight, as well as other logistics services
- Conduct customer and vendor reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies promptly
- Monitor accounts receivable and coordinate with clients for timely collections
- Verify shipment job files to ensure accurate revenue and cost recognition
- Prepare bank reconciliations and assist with cash flow monitoring
- Support month-end closing processes, accruals, and audit requirements
- Ensure compliance with UAE VAT regulations and statutory requirements
- Collaborate with operations and customer service teams to maintain accurate job costing
Requirements:
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CA Inter, or CMA are an advantage
- Strong understanding of freight billing and job costing processes
- Familiarity with shipping documents (BL, DO, manifests, etc.)
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Tally, SAP, Oracle, or similar
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
Preferred:
- Experience in NVOCC or freight forwarding environments
- Knowledge of Incoterms and international trade procedures
- Experience managing multi-currency transactions
